My journey in Haiti has been nothing short of an adventure!
For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them. Ephesians 2:10
God works in mysterious ways. His plans are always HIGHER (and better) than ours.
My journey to Haiti started long before I realized it was Haiti God was preparing me for. I would say in all reality my journey to a life on missions started with I was 10 years old with my first family mission trip to Quad Cities, IL and only continued from there. That first trip ignited a fire in my soul that couldn't be ignored. During middle and high school I went on trips through World Changers. I lost count how many trips I went on.
My family traveled to Mexico with our church and then I had the opportunity to travel to an orphanage in Mexico with my university during college. If you had asked me in the midst of college what my plans post grad were, I would have said moving to Mexico. However, God had different plans.
When the time came for me to make a decision regarding what I was doing after graduation, my heart yearned to serve in Mexico, but felt that the door the Lord opened was to teach. I felt like the Lord was telling me to, "Teach two years and then we'll see." So, I pursued the Lord's call. I found a teaching job, and taught.
Ya'll...God's amazing. In the middle of my second year, my friend who was currently living in Haiti, messaged me and said, "Hey, do you wanna move to Haiti?" (Mind you we had a conversation about me moving when my friend did, but I didn't have anything to do and I had already committed to another year of school.) I knew in that moment Haiti was my next adventure and I could hear the resounding, "teach two years..."
Of course, I had to prayerfully consider and insure this was what God was leading me to. I made arrangements to travel to Haiti and meet the family I would be working for. (There really was a job this time...homeschool teacher to the director's children.) On spring break, I traveled to Haiti for the first time ever and met the Brouwers and had many conversations with them afterward regarding the potential of my joining the team. We made the decision in April 2016 that I would move.
On August 8, 2016, I picked up my life and relocated to a foreign country with a language I didn't know, (I was already quite proficient in Spanish, but they speak Creole in Haiti), and started working for Hope Community Project in Gonaives, Haiti.
Since that August, I have learned so much about who I am, who God is and about the strength that He gives me day in and day out to live my life for Him.
My job started out teaching three kids, but has expanded to so much more. I help care for Moses two days a week, I teach an English class in our community two afternoons a week, and I have become much more involved in our family preservation efforts through the org. I also managed to move a thousand miles away and meet the love of my life. (We'll be getting married in November 2019.)
My adventure has been such an amazing blessing. This adventure isn't possible without amazing supporters backing me. That first support comes through prayer. Life in Haiti is no cake walk and often brings me to tears over difficulties, injustices, and homesickness. Your prayers carry me through. Please don't ever stop praying for me, for my fiancè Wood, and for Hope Community Project.
The second support comes with finances. Just like in America, it takes money to live -- money for rent, money for gas, money for flights home, money for personal expenses, money for medical insurance. It takes about $17,000 a year to finance my expenses. If you feel called to support my ministry, you can support with one time donations or monthly. All of your donations are GREATLY appreciated and tax-deductible. You can donate online through this page or send a check to our offices if you prefer.
I could write a book about all of my passions for what Hope does, and for what I do. If you ever want to know more, please contact me! I would love to email or set up a time to chat when I'm in the states. I also post a monthly blog at https://catigoestohaiti.blogspot.com/. If you would like to receive monthly updates via email you can contact me at cateymarie92@gmail.com.
Your support means the world. I invite you to join on my adventure with me!
With love,
Caitlin Campbell
